Presentation of Italian Book on 9/11 in Florida.

On December 4th, Tiziano Thomas Dossena, the editorial director of L’Idea Magazine and of Ideapress Publishing House, presented once again to the public, in the marvelous settings of the Civic Center of Port St. Lucie, the poetry book “The Island of Tears”. The author, Giulia Poli Disanto, wrote the profound and delicate Italian verses of this book, translated by Nova Blain, as a tribute to the fallen victims and heroes of September 11th. This topic is tremendously emotional and current, particularly here in Port St. Lucie, where a yearly commemoration is held.

Albert Hickey, an ex-detective who participated as a first responder, is the writer of the electrifying and soul-wrenching introduction to the book. He is also the organizer of the yearly commemoration and the force behind the erection of the 9/11 monument that stands, as a sad but impressive reminder of that day, in the front square of the Civic Center.

After a captivating opening by Dossena, who had flown on purpose to Florida for the event, Hickey had the opportunity to capture the audience with a sum-up of his experience with 9/11. He started with a chronicle of that ill-fated day and relived through the following two years, narrating life-changing and perturbing events using a concise, passionate and sensitive language that ensured the attention of the public.

After a brief commentary on Hickey’s discourse, Dossena introduced another ex-New Yorker, Leonardo Campanile, Editor-in-Chief of L’Idea Magazine and publisher of the book, who spoke about his personal experiences in the war-torn World Trade Center, where the daily prayers initiated by a priest were the only consolation. He also showed a photograph of the first day that praying tradition started.

With the audience fully attuned to the profound topic of 9/11, Dossena completed the presentation by reading two poems from the book, “The Birds Sing No More” and “The Island of Tears”.

He then concluded by asking everyone to remember September 11th as a day that should unite people across the country, and not divide them with hate or conflict.

Libro Italiano sull’Undici Settembre Presentato in Florida.

Il 4 dicembre, Tiziano Thomas Dossena, direttore editoriale della casa editrice floridiana Ideapress e del trimestrale newyorchese L’Idea Magazine, ha presentato ancora una volta al pubblico, nella sede del meraviglioso Centro Civico di Port St. Lucie, il libro di poesie “L’Isola delle lacrime”. Giulia Poli Disanto ha scritto i versi italiani profondi e delicati di questo libro, tradotto da Nova Blain, come omaggio alle vittime e agli eroi dell’Undici Settembre. Questo tema è tremendamente emotivo e corrente, specialmente qui a Port St. Lucie, dove si svolge una commemorazione annua dedicata  al tragico evento..

Dopo un accattivante apertura della serata da parte di Dossena, che era venuto apposta in Florida per l’evento, Hickey ha avuto l’opportunità di catturare il pubblico con un riassunto della sua traumatica esperienza. Ha iniziato con una cronaca di quella giornata sfortunata, rivivendo poi i seguenti due anni, narrando eventi perturbanti che gli cambiarono la vita, usando un linguaggio conciso, passionale e sensibile che gli assicurò l’attenzione del pubblico.

Dopo un breve commento sul discorso di Hickey, Dossena ha introdotto un altro espatriato da New York, Leonardo Campanile, Direttore Responsabile de L’Idea Magazine e della casa editrice Ideapress, che ha parlato delle sue esperienze personali nel World Trade Center dilaniato dalla guerra, dove le preghiere quotidiane avviate da un sacerdote erano l’unica consolazione. Campanile ha anche mostrato una fotografia scattata da lui del primo giorno che questa tradizione fu iniziata.

Con il pubblico completamente in sintonia con il tema profondo dell’Undici Settembre, Dossena ha completato la presentazione con la lettura di due poesie tratte dal libro, “Gli Uccelli Non Cantano Più” e “L’isola delle Lacrime”.

L’editore newyorchese ha quindi concluso, chiedendo a tutti di commemorare la data dell’Undici Settembre come un giorno che dovrebbe unire la nazione americana e non creare divisioni con odio o conflitti interni.
